Resisting stormy weather

‘I want to go with the one I love’

I want to go with the one I love.
I do not want to calculate the cost.
I do not want to think about whether it’s good.
I do not want to know whether he loves me.
I want to go with whom I love.

by Bertolt Brecht

No matter what obstacles we faced in the past two years of developing the documentary ‘Login 2 Life’, we managed to overcome every single ditch. I learned that if you want something really hard you’ll get it. But I had to accept that it takes time. More than one might think. I am grateful that I am not alone. I know it sounds over the top but I want to thank my team for showing all that strength and endurance. We can be proud of what we developed. Thank you!

Corey in da house!!!

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009 by draxtor | Cast | 1 Comment

I gave a little tour to Corey, our new main protagonist for L2L yesterday. A tour of Second Life. While familiar and actually pretty darn high up in the WoW community, Corey is a relative newbie in SL. He has been in there exploring a few times and met already a lot of what I call “key residents” (=movers and shakers), but it was incredibly exciting for me to see his virtual eyes light up, when he realized, that this world is, as Linden Lab has advertised for years, “created BY ITS RESIDENTS”.

I realized that people on the outside, familiar with video games and MMO’s, often times do not know, that SL is nothing but a blank canvas. Only the creative energy of its residents has brought to life this world, no matter if it is a replica of the Cologne Dome, US Capitol Hill or the Magic of Oz sim. Corey, who is left paralyzed after a terrible car accident 6 years ago,  was ecstatic to say the least . When I rezzed a wooden cube, he said: “wow, this is like they have a CAD design software built into this thing”!

Welcome Corey, looking forward to working with you on this project. Our short trip brought us from the Berkman sandbox, to virtual Paris and over to Adam Ramonas interactive sound sculptures. Corey then ventured into a furry club with his new friend Teeny, a DJ there.

Let’s Rock!

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009 by tstrasser | Backstage | Add Comment

There we go, deadlines are closing in on us, thoughts are being squeezed through the bottleneck of production necessities, time is running short and THEY clearly outnumber us…    (whoever they are)

Just the way we like it!

No kidding, producing a movie ain’t no piece of cake, bro. Now this is it, the call for support – rally to the flag of Login 2 Life, ’cause we need all the help we can get. Spread the word, tell the story, add us to your list (only if it’s a favourable one of course), and do drop by again to get the news.

We’re gonna be at Berlin Film Festival aka Berlinale within the next 2 weeks to promote the movie, find b2b partnership and get it out there (eventually there will be a detailed report of the behind the scenes action and all the partying with Mr. Weinstein as soon as I got some time available to share it with you).

Btw, in case any reader of this (team-members excluded of course) should be up there and would like a meet-and-greet, just drop us a line, we’ll be there…

Keep your fingers crossed and your thumbs up! See ya…

this is the year!!! (belated wishes)

Friday, January 23rd, 2009 by draxtor | Development, Team | Add Comment

It is late January 2009: Obama is in office, I am losing some weight, my son is getting smarter by the minute: good times! But most importantly: Daniel Moshel is hard at work on Login2Life treatment. The project is on track, my regular blogging is not, but what the hell: we are moving along swiftly with the main protagonist found, we are having ongoing discussions about the significance of virtual worlds and gaming, the future of communication in a networked world and how we want our project to reflect these developments, the tone, the style and yes, the distributionin foreign markets. May I be on record with (one of) my new years resolution(s): update the blog on a weekly basis, minimum. you heard it here first!

Please vote for titels….NOT .-)

Friday, January 23rd, 2009 by dmoshel | Backstage, Development | 3 Comments

I played around with the titel animation sequence login2life several months ago. Recently I found it on my harddisk and added supersound to it. I thought I should give them an audience. When principal photography start in May this year we should reconsider our titel animation. Here you can see the way how it became what it became concerning the pre trailer.

1) Blade II poser very commercial style

2) LED trendy “not again” style

3) The modest ‘a bit more than Jim Jarmusch’ way

Be part of our documentary. Chapter II

Thursday, January 1st, 2009 by Login 2 Life | Cast, Common, Development | 3 Comments

We are widening our entering premises and still looking for a protagonist.

What, or rather who are we looking for now? This time it is very simple: A female or male person, who is strongly benefiting from his/her activities in a MMORPG and in Second Life for her/his real life- please be aware, the dual residence is NOT a must but we would appreciate if you are experienced in both worlds.

If you can’t imagine now what we are searching, then let us give you few examples: For instance you got a real life job through engaging heavily in a MMORPG or in SL, or you are isolated in a special way and you keep in touch with other folks in participating on these upper mentioned platforms, or e.g. you are physically handicapped and you are enjoying synthetic social systems without stigma.

Short summary:

. Male/Female

. benefiting from MMORPG activities for your real life

. solid experience within any MMORPG and/or SL

. time and interest to be part of the project and in front of a camera

. apply including short CV and a description about you

Curious? Or even interested? Please mail to: contact@login2life.net

For further information on the project, you can check out this site or go to the production company’s website. Feel free to leave comments and opinions…

So it seems we found our candidate. Thx for all the nice applications. If we haven’t answered your emails yet it is because a work avalanche hit us. Please don’t be angry we try our best to make it happend.

5 international stops, one so called trailer and no report II

Saturday, December 20th, 2008 by dmoshel | Common | Add Comment

This post extends this one.-)

So I arrived at the afternoon at JFK airport and rolled with my rental Corola to Jersey. On the other side of the Hudson river a delicious motel waited for me. I payed more than 100 bucks a day for an accommodation which would cost a third of the price somewhere else. So this was a warm welcome and introduction to the prices in Manhatten. Very excited about the fact being in NY I couldn’t get some rest and went at the same night for a small location scout for filming some B-role footage of the Manhatten skyline for the next morning. I got some average night shots of the skyline but everything paid off next morning when I filmed some decent “the early bird gets the worm” cloudy sun rise footage from the same spot in Jersey. Then I headed to Manhatten to meet Nate Taylor at his editing working suite at Crewcuts. Nate is a very talented director and editor. He edits upper league commercials for living and owns with friends a company named Full Stealth. This way he is able to direct his own stuff. Nate’s MMOvie Trailer was the reason for this trip. This Machinima film was created in World of Warcraft and it is so entertaining and funny that I wanted very hard to get acquainted to the makers of this clip. That’s the reason why I finally met Nate at the penthouse of Crewcuts. Nate didn’t have to much obligation on this day and so he granted me loads of time to ask silly question around him, his life as an director and gamer and of course about the making of “The MMOvie”. The company had a beautiful terrace with direct view towards the Chrysler building. This was the perfect location for an interview. At night “Gentle Nate” invited some friends who were involved in the professional creation of MMOvie. We spent a great time putting some situations “in scene” which happend during the shoot of the beforementioned machinma. Nate and his team work at the moment on Nate’s first feature live action movie called “Forgetting the Girl”. Due to the financial crisis in the states it is very hard for him closing the budget but he is looking forward to start shooting during spring time in 2009 (no matter how much money he is able to rise). Thumbs up to you Nate. I hope everythig works out for you.

After I left Nate I realized that my Corola was torn away. So I got aquatinted to load of bureaucracy in the NYC police department. On next day I shot some more B-role footage of stereotype places of NYC (5th ave, Central station, subway and so on), then headed to JFK, in between I enjoyed a delicious carot vanilla sour cream cake (I forgot how this thing is named, so please let me kno and comment) in Brookyn and finally took my plane to Denver, Colorado. There I met one of the most impressive people of my whole Life. But this I’ll post in my next blog entry.

Welcome WoW

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 by greeky | Backstage, Common, Team | Add Comment

And welcome all you readers round the world. I’m Andreas “Greeki” Athanasiadis and I’m the World of Warcraft researcher in the team. Perhaps you know me from events or TV shows on GIGA, but I’m not here to tell you my vita. I’d like to tell you more about World of Warcraft and how we want to involve WoW in our documentary movie login2life.

Today many shows or even serious newscasts try to shed a bad light on MMORPG’s. They say World of Warcraft makes you addicted, but seriously, can a game make YOU addicted? There must be more than that, and I can of course say that you could be addicted, but it’s not because it is WoW. The real reason is the social aspect of these games. It is about the tribute you get when you do something hard. You do as well have the feeling that you really made something. Many people including me can’t say that they are making something really cool in the real world and that is what we also want to feature in Login2Life. MMO’s can provide satisfaction, satisfaction which could not be achieved or not so easy in our real lifes. We all in the team think that MMO’s will be the future of gaming, but not only gaming, it will be also a part of our communication and life. My guiding principle for MMO’s is simple: Alone you are nothing, only together you could reach more than you ever imagine. This principle says nothing different than: You have to be SOCIAL. Imagine the whole world would be social and try to work together instead of against each other. I don’t want to say that MMO’s will make the world more social instantly, but everything counts and MMO’s will help us live together on this big planet.

Now I have to stop dreaming and come back to reality. Perhaps you know it already but christmas is coming. (If you did not know get out and buy some presents for your friends :) ) Blizzard of course knows this and they implement this event into their game (There are many other events. Check this page) . So now we celebrate the Winter Veil Feast in Azeroth (The “Planet” in World of Warcraft is called Azeroth) and Greatfather Winter visits the capital citys of the Alliance and the Horde. I will show you more in my next blog, which will be online in a few days.

PS: Today we are shooting some christmas scenes in WoW.
