Berlin again! Heading for HKW…
Another Benchmark reached – Yay!
After completion of principal photography – and proudly we may state, successfully – commencement of postproduction and editing, March 29th 2011 will mark yet another historical date in our progress. For the first time, a 10-minute excerpt of our film will be presented to the public. “Haus der Kulturen der Welt” in Berlin, ZDF’s co-sponsor of Bodybits (see previous posts) will be hosting an event at their site, where all participants of the Bodybits contest get some airplay. And we’re among them.
Even greater than this little fact, Gentle Heron, one of our protagonists from the world of Second Life will fly all the way over from the US, to discuss the film’s issues as well as her own experiences at a panel held on the same day – March 29th 2011. We are glad, excited and proud, that Gentle’s real-life self is joining us, despite her physical condition. In her abstract, she states:
Virtual worlds are becoming increasingly popular. Many features of virtual worlds mirror what is called the “real world”. Which features of virtual worlds are virtual?
People with real-world disabilities are able to access virtual worlds, sometimes using assistive technology to do so. Second Life is a virtual world where people with many different kinds of disabilities find real benefits, including medical, learning and social benefits. The Virtual Ability community in Second Life helps people using assistive technology become successful in that virtual world.
Daniel Moshel’s film highlights some of the benefits to people with disabilities of being in a virtual world. The film contrasts the lives of people when they are inside and outside the virtual world.
The panel will commence at 19:00h (GMT+1). Entry fee is € 5,-
We’re so looking forward to it and will be back with impressions from the event, as soon as we make it back from Berlin.
